Positions are available for those interested in art, nature, education and hospitality. Time commitment varies according to volunteer description.

High Hopes

High Hopes Therapeutic Riding, which offers the benefits of therapeutic horseback riding to children and adults with special needs, is currently seeking volunteers over the age of 14 years to assist with all aspects of the riding program.  With over 200 participants weekly, this non profit organization counts on the support of individuals to assist as horse leaders, sidewalkers, barn helpers and more.  Experience is not required and training sessions are offered monthly.  High Hopes is located at 36 Town Woods Rd. in Old Lyme.  For more information, call 434-1974.

The Lyme Tree - A Woman's Exchange

A Woman's Exchange located in the Old Lyme Marketplace is in urgent need of more volunteers to help staff the store.  Business has been brisk recently but a number of the regular staff are still in Florida and several have moved away, creating a short supply of help for the shop.  Sadly, the store has been forced to close on an occasional afternoon because no one is available to work.  If readers can donate any amount of time to help, contact Joan Ryan at 434-3970 or drop into the store at 86 Halls Rd.

Old Lyme-Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library

If you love books, the Friends of the Old Lyme-Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library  are looking for volunteers to staff the BookCellar.  A two-hour shift once a month on Wednesday or Saturday is all that is necessary.

The Friends run the BookCellar which generates income for the Library.  This year they have pledged to raise $20,000 from the sale of books.

Donations of new and gently used books are always welcome, but no text books or old magazines.

Call 434-0733 or 434-7004 to volunteer.
