Elma M. Roberston 12/26/09

Elma M. Roberston, 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009.

She was born July 15, 1914 in Cobalt, Canada.

She was the second youngest of six daughters born to Abel and Aune ( Maata) Larson, who had emigrated to the silver mining region of Canada five years earlier from Finland. When she was 2 weeks old, the family came to the United States and settled on a farm in Canterbury, Conn.

In 1938 she married John W. Robertson, who predeceased her, and they settled in Moosup, where she and the family later ran a poultry farm for many years. In addition, she was a superb homemaker and worked for a number of years at several local manufacturing facilities.

In her spare time, Elma loved doing lawn work and tending to her expansive shrub and beautiful flower gardens. She will be remembered for her hard work, generosity, and being a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her son Robert and his wife Maura of Moosup, as well as their children, Melanie Jordan and her husband Michael of Sterling, Derek Robertson and his wife Alyssa of Plainfield and Jason Robertson and his wife Lisa of Dayville. She is also survived by her son J. Richard and his wife Sandra of Old Lyme, CT. and their children Aaron Robertson of Melrose, MA, and Sarah Robertson of Brooklyn, NY. In addition, she leaves a sister, Elsie Hill of Danielson, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Monique Verian who provided exceptional homecare for the past 2 years. Funeral Services were private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the TVCCA, Meals on Wheels Program, 81 Stockhouse Road, Bozrah, Conn. 06334 or the charity of your choice.

Tillinghast Funeral Home, 25 Main Street, Central Village is in charge of arrangements.
