Edith Lillian Northrop MacDonald, 90, of 442 Shore Road, South Lyme, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, in Cary, N.C. Mrs. MacDonald had been staying with her daughter.
Mrs. MacDonald, daughter of Earl and Gertrude Tilton Northrop, was born Nov. 24, 1919, in Lakehurst, N.J.
She married Leslie J. MacDonald; he predeceased her in 1985.
She attended Old Lyme schools. She was a member of the Old Lyme Congregational Church and Old Lyme Grange. She was a loving homemaker, wife, sister, mother, grammie, great grammie, and great, great grammie.
Mrs. MacDonald is survived by her four daughters; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Her daughters, Janice Gafner of Cary, N.C., Verna Geiger and her husband, Don, of Salamanca, N.Y., Earleen Soccoli and husband, Ron, of East Lyme, Gail Taylor of Cary, N.C., and Sandra and husband, Mark McGough, of Wilmington, N.C.; her grandchildren, Barry Gafner, Lori Darling, Susan Oliver, Diane, Lisa, and Sam Geiger, Linda Finn, Tammy and Billy Dupree, and Ron Soccoli, Jr., Shannon and Christy Taylor, and Nichole Dillon; and two brothers, Daniel Northrop of Witchita, Kans. and Melvin Northrop of Old Lyme.
She was predeceased by her husband; her daughter, Sherry Ashworth; brother, Robert Northrop; and sister, Joyce Northrop.
Her family would like to thank her North Carolina friends for their love and support in the celebration of her 90th year and to Judy, thank you for .......Oh, The Places You'll Go!
Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 11, at the Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home in Old Lyme. Interment was in the Duck River Cemetery.
