Men's Chorus Presents “Fantabulous Favorites” at "The Kate"

The Cappella Cantorum Men’s Chorus will present “Fantabulous Favorites” on Sunday, Sept.13 at 3 p.m. in the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main Street, Old Saybrook.  The 38-member Men’s Chorus is conducted by Old Saybrook resident Barry B. Asch and accompanied by Susan Sweeney of Deep River; with flautist Nancy Skeele, Old Saybrook; and Narrator William Werwaiss, Ivoryton.

Gospel, sea shanties, Broadway, folk songs and classical music are featured including Handel’s “Hallelujah, Amen,” Puccini”s “Nessun Dorma,” “Alexander’s Ragtime Band,” “Vive L’Amour,” “The Mighty Mouse Theme,” “South Pacific Selections” by Rodgers & Hammerstein and “Get Me to the Church on Time” from “My Fair Lady.”  The Hill Top Four will perform an exciting repertoire of Barbershop favorites.

The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center venue is part of the Cappella Cantorum Men’s Chorus 2009 Connecticut Concert Tour.  Members represent 17 towns throughout the State.


The Men’s Chorus began in June 1977 with a performance at the Chester Meeting House featuring sea shanties, showtunes, spirituals and barbershop selections.  In 1979, they were accepted as a part of “Conntours,” a subsidized touring program by the Connecticut Commission on the Arts.  A successful statewide tour followed. 

The Cappella Cantorum Men’s Chorus has shared the stage with “The Boston Common, Max Showalter, Hartford Choral Club, Coro Alpino, a men’s chorus from the valley of Aoste in Northern Italy. and the Connecticut Jazz Festival Chorus.  Last fall, the chorus spent a weekend in Cape Cod performing concerts.
