During play in Monday's LOL Education Foundation Golf Tournament, Don Desautels slices out of the rough watched casually - but closely - by team mate Andy Russell.
The sun shone, the golf clubs came out and the gentlemen (plus a handful of ladies and young men) played.
More than 50 golfers turned out Monday for the first annual golf tournament hosted by the Lyme-Old Lyme Education Foundation (LOLEF) at Shennecossett Golf Course in Groton.

Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School was well-represented in this team with language teacher Pam Russell and Guidance Counselor Don Desautels (right) trading their blackboard chalk for golf clubs. Filling the other two spots on the team were Vice-President and General Manager of Hall Radio, Andy Russell (second from right) and Mick Byrne.
After a box lunch sponsored by AXA Financial, followed by a shotgun start, 14 teams played in a scramble format for awards and an extensive selection of raffle prizes including golf clubs, a golf bag, golf balls, various articles of sports apparel and gift certificates.

Team # 10 comprised a trio of lawyers (from left to right) Jack Collins, Jay Berryman, and Greg Carnese, who were kept in order by the Quality Printing man himself, Brian Cole.
At the end of play, the team of Chris Pomroy, Sean Velasquez, Tim Gavin and Torrance Downes won first place honors, coming in second were Jeff Coley, Kel Tyler, Mike Ganey and Will Bradford, and third place went to the Neaton-Kane team.

Double trouble came in the form of the Neaton twins, Rob (left) and Mike (second from left), who were ably assisted by Michael Kane (far left) and his son, Matt.
Longest drive for the men went to Torrance Downes and for the women to Sheree Sibley.

Team #14 comprised presenting sponsor Mark Vinchesi (right), his two sons Connor (second from left) and Drew (second from right) along with Bob Kahn (left.)
The presenting sponsor for the event was Great Brook Sports of Groton owned by Mark Vinchesi, and other sponsors included the Kane, Hartmann, Nosal, Lech, and Russell families, Reynolds Garage and Marine, Orthodontic Associates of Southeastern Connecticut, Bonne Santé, Office Express, Sal's Pizza & Pasta, Brown & Knapp, and LymeLine.com.

Greg Carnese is on his way to a perfect putt.
A steak dinner was enjoyed by all participants at the Par Four restaurant at the conclusion of the event, where the awards were also announced.

Adding beauty and charm to this team are Maddy Donnelly (second from left) and Martha Gibson (second from right), who joined Ed Donnelly (left) and Jay Macko (right.)
LOLEF Treasurer Michael Kane told LymeLine that approximately $3,000 was raised for the LOLEF and commented, "It was a perfect golf day. Everyone really enjoyed the event," adding, "I think people were so happy to be playing golf in such nice weather at such a great facility that you couldn't help but have a good time.

We include more photos from the event below but please help us identify these merry golfers!
