And they're off! Center School provides the backdrop for the 5K race start.
The inaugural Artistry in Motion event sponsored by the Lyme-Old Lyme Education Foundation (LOLEF) was held Saturday. Comprising a one-mile Fun Run, a 5K walk, and a 5K run, entrants came from a wide variety of locations in the state and spanned the generations. The weather was almost perfect for the serious runners - just a tad humid - and some impressive results were achieved.
First the Fun Run kicked off at 9:30 a.m. followed by the 5K walk at 9:45 a.m. The most competitive event of the day was the 5K road race which started at 10 a.m. and was won by Phil Reutlinger in a sub-16 minute time.

First through the finish line was Phil Reutlinger.
A post-race party was held in the grounds of Lymes' Youth Services Bureau.

In his pre-race address, event chairman Michael Kane (above center, front) of Old Lyme said he was delighted with the number of entrants (the final count was expected to be around 150), commenting it, "Far exceeded my expectations," He thanked the major sponsors, Mohegan Sun and J.H. Muller Builder, for ther donations and the remaining sponsors (which included LymeLine) for their support.

Kane also acknowledged the efforts of the LOLEF board and the many volunteers who had stepped forward to help out on race day. High School senior Stephen Burke (above, center) manned the microphone during the race providing a lively, ongoing commentary of the runners as they approached the finish line.
All proceeds from the event will benefit LOLEF-sponsored programs, and innovative teaching and learning initiatives, while also helping to build educational partnerships between students and community members.

Second place in the men's 5K went to this runner.
