9 Town Transit Continues Free Bus Fares for Seniors
The Estuary Transit District’s 9 Town Transit will continue its popular free senior bus fares with some changes to simplify the program.  The free fares are valid on all 9 Town Transit services for travel throughout the Estuary region.  Any resident of the nine town Estuary region (Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Essex, Killingworth, Lyme, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook) age 60 or older qualifies for the program. Read More ...

OL Town Budget Approved at Annual Town Meeting
The Old Lyme Town Budget of $31.1 million was approved at the Annual Town Meeting held at Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School Monday night. Only the general government portion of that budget, which stands at $8.4 million, was discussed in detail, since the Region 18 Board of Education budget of $22.7 million had already been approved by voters on May 4. Read More ...

Budget Passes Unanimously in Old Lyme
Yesterday evening around 20 people showed up at Old Lyme's Memorial Town Hall to vote on the board of finance's proposed $31.04 million budget for the 2009-2010 financial year.  The budget was passed unanimously as were the additional votes relating to the payment schedule for taxes, the restriction of bus entry into the Soundview area and the creation of staggered terms for Flood and Erosion Control Board members. Read More ...

Carnell Retires as OL Town Clerk
Her tenure has spanned six American Presidents, five Connecticut Governors and five Old Lyme Selectmen. Under her authority, 33 elections have been recorded, 21,013 dog licenses issued and 3,465 marriage licenses prepared. Irene Carnell was appointed Assistant Town Clerk for the Town of Old Lyme in 1976, elected Town Clerk in 1991 and retired Monday after 33 years of loyal service. Read More ...

Cell Tower Hearing Draws Questioning Crowd
Emotions ran high Tuesday evening at the Public Hearing regarding the lease for town-owned land on Cross Ln. on which SBA plan to build a cell tower.  Some argued against the tower on the grounds of health and environmental concerns, and proximity to a school, while members of the emergency services said the 180 ft. tower would increase community safety by dramatically improving cell phone reception in the area.  Full report now added. Read More ...

Census Workers Start Visits in Local Area
Starting in early May, look for the 2010 Census takers working in your neighborhood. Census 2010 is underway. Census takers, also called “enumerators,” will soon be visiting homes, apartment buildings and other places where people live in Lyme and Old Lyme. OL Selectmen Vote to Join EL Probate Court
The Old Lyme Board of Selectmen voted unanimously at their meeting Monday evening to make a recommendation to the Probate Assembly that Old Lyme should join with East Lyme, Montville and possibly Salem to form a new Probate Court serving, as required by state statute, a population of at least 40,000. Southeast Shuttle Bus Service Launched with Old Lyme Stops
9 Town Transit now provides direct service to between Old Saybrook and New London with its new Southeast Shuttle.  This service replaces the current Niantic route that terminates in Niantic.  The Southeast Shuttle operates Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. between the Old Saybrook Train Station and the New London Transportation Center in downtown New London, via Old Lyme. Read More ...

The sun shone brightly and skies were blue for the 16th annual Sound View parade held Saturrday morning.  With the band playing brightly, several hundred patriotically-dressed folk of all ages marched down Hartford Avenue or rode on decorated bicycles or cars. Flags were everywhere and the large crowd of spectators cheered enthusiastically.  Read More ...

Department of Consumer Protection liquor control agents working with local police officers and underage volunteers conducted alcohol compliance checks this past weekend. On Saturday SBA Inc. flew a red balloon approximately three feet across at 180 ft. above the Cross Lane site where the company proposes to build a cell tower of that height. OL Zoning Public Hearing Tonight Considers Regulation Changes
This evening a Public Hearing is scheduled at the Old Lyme Zoning Commission Meeting starting at 7:30 p.m. in the town hall regarding Planned Residential Conservation Development. The proposed changes, if approved, will be applied to the Zoning Regulations and therefore affect future residential land development in Old Lyme. Nine-Town Transit Offers Free Bus Passes to Seniors
The Estuary Transit District’s Nine-Town Transit service is now offering free bus passes to area seniors. The passes are good on all Nine-Town Transit Services. Any resident of the Nine-Town Estuary region (Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Essex, Killingworth, Lyme, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook) age 60 or older qualifies for the program. Read More ...

More than 50 residents crammed into the library at Christ the King Church last night where the Old Lyme Planning Commission was holding its regular monthly meeting.  Two Public Hearings were on the agenda, one for seven lots off Short Hills Rd. and the second for eight lots at 81 Mile Creek Rd.  The Short Hills plan has drawn considerable attention because its Phase 2 calls for 83 units, the largest single development ever proposed in Old Lyme. Read More ...
