D18 Deregionalization, Open Space Top Agenda at OL Selectmen's Meeting There was standing room only Monday morning when around 50 people turned out for the Old Lyme Board of Selectmen meeting, despite its early start at 7:30 a.m. Two unrelated agenda items had drawn the unusually large crowd. The first was the presentation of a petition seeking the creation of a committee to review the viability of deregionalizing District 18 and the second was a $50,000 cut from the town’s Open Space Acquisition Budget. Congratulations, John! You're Now a Fully-Fledged Volunteer John Guy LaPlante has astonished everyone - including himself - by making it through his rigorous three-month training to become a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ukraine. He is one of only four seniors left standing and, at 78, the oldest by far. He's off to attend the formal Swearing-In ceremony in Dyedek before he starts his two-year assignment back in Chernihiv. D18 Budget Passes in Both Towns Regional District 18's $28.2M operating budget for the upcoming financial year passed by a total of 857 to 613 votes. The numbers in Lyme were 222 Yes and 58 No votes. Black Bag Lost Monday on Lyme Street A black bag holding documents of great value to the owner was lost on Lyme Street around 4 p.m. on Monday. The bag contained a wallet, German documents, a grey sweatshirt, an mp3 player, and sunglasses. One of the documents was an international licence without which the owner cannot drive.
