Run for Caroline A 5K Community Fitness Run and 1-mile Fun Run will be held in Old Lyme this Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. to raise funds for Caroline's Miracle Foundation, which supports families dealing with the effects of Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. 'Southeast Shuttle' Bus Service Launched, Stops in Old Lyme 9 Town Transit now provides direct service to between Old Saybrook and New London with its new Southeast Shuttle. This service replaces the current Niantic route that terminates in Niantic. The Southeast Shuttle operates Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. between the Old Saybrook Train Station and the New London Transportation Center in downtown New London, via Old Lyme. There's a New Café in Town The Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme has recently opened Café Flo, a new addition to its cultural offerings. The seasonal summer café serves locally sourced fare from River Tavern in Chester Fridays and Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays from 12:30 to 3 p.m. through Sept. 19. Sun Shines on Sound View's Parade The sun shone brightly and skies were blue for the 16th annual Sound View parade held Saturrday morning. With the band playing brightly, several hundred patriotically-dressed folk of all ages marched down Hartford Avenue or rode on decorated bicycles or cars. In an extraordinary display of support and compassion for an Old Lyme girl diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG—an inoperable brain tumour), close to 1,000 people descended on Town Woods Park Saturday afternoon to raise funds for Caroline's Miracle Foundation. Outdoor Awareness Workshops Scheduled Outdoor awareness workshops are being held for youth in grades 2-6 to increase their general understanding about the woods as well as trail safety. Subjects to be covered will include fire safety, animals, orienteering, and more.
