Golf Tourney Benefits Education The sun shone, the golf clubs came out and the gentlemen (plus a handful of ladies and young men) played. More than 50 golfers turned out Monday for the first annual golf tournament hosted by the Lyme-Old Lyme Education Foundation at Shennecossett Golf Course in Groton and by the end of the event more than $3,000 had been raised for the Foundation. Keep Phoebe Smiling ... Back in 1927-28, the Old Lyme-Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library published a fundraising pamphlet. The goal was to raise $2,000 and the publication gave a list of reasons to justify the library’s appeal for donations. OL Selectmen Vote to Join EL Probate Court The Old Lyme Board of Selectmen voted unanimously at their meeting Monday evening to make a recommendation to the Probate Assembly that Old Lyme should join with East Lyme, Montville and possibly Salem to form a new Probate Court serving, as required by state statute, a population of at least 40,000. Volunteers Sought to Assist Building "Stickworks" The Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme has invited North Carolina artist Patrick Dougherty to create one of his site-specific monumental sculptures called "stickworks" on the property. Inspired by the location, Dougherty weaves truckloads of freshly harvested native tree saplings, into a unique and telling form. Some installations reach over 24 feet high.
